Decades have passed in preparation for this day, but we did* it. (Well, ‘we did*’ at least two-thirds of it.) Yesterday marked the official opening of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway. The route will be fully opened to traffic next week. Truly a team effort which involved no less than five different Chamber Transportation Chairs and their deep connections and relationships with dozens of appointed and elected officials. Read more

Consider that in 2021, Main Street America programs generated $5.76 billion in local reinvestment, helped open 6,601 new businesses, generated 30,402 new jobs, catalyzed the rehabilitation of 10,595 historic buildings, and leveraged 1.5 million volunteer hours. On average, for every dollar that a Main Street program, such as Lewisburg, spent to support their operations, $19.34 of new investment was generated back into the community. Read more

This past week, thanks to the good work of the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit and their clear thinking, strategically focused Board of Directors, our local continuum of education got bigger and considerably stronger. The ribbon was cut on the newly minted LPN Career Center. During my quick tour of this center, I was highly impressed with the pedagogical care and thought, as well as the impressive faculty, that went into the design and operation of this facility located at 14 Lawton Lane, Milton. CSO, Inc. has received a $7,500 grant from The First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania. This award represents a grant from the Ralph and Josephine Smith Fund and will be used to support Watsontown Borough residents with home electricity costs. Read more

Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg is taking proactive steps to prepare students interested in healthcare-related careers to meet the future demand through a unique program that allows them to experience many aspects of care. This year’s class includes 13 individuals, made up of students having completed their sophomore, junior or senior years at schools throughout the surrounding districts. The students must have a grade point average of 3.3 (88%) or better and the willingness to experience different areas of the healthcare environment. Read more
