Head Teacher - Day Care
Description
The Head Teacher/Head Aide leads daily classroom operations, ensuring a safe, clean, and engaging environment for children. This role supervises staff, supports child development, maintains compliance, and communicates with families.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children at all times; maintain accurate counts and ratios (1:4, 1:5, 1:6, 1:10)
- Lead and support Assistant Teachers, Aides, and Substitutes; delegate tasks and provide training
- Plan and implement daily lessons, activities, field trips, and special events
- Assist with daily care (meals, diapering, toileting, hygiene)
- Maintain a clean, organized classroom and update bulletin boards monthly
- Administer medication (21+) and First Aid; complete incident reports
- Communicate with parents and enforce health policies
- Complete required documentation (attendance, reports, developmental checklists, logs)
- Support hiring/onboarding tasks and staff coverage as needed
- Attend required trainings (9–15 hours/year) and meet physical demands (lift up to 50 lbs)
- Keep the Childcare Director informed of any concerns
Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education or a degree in the Human Services field plus 2 or more years of experience working with children. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
