Event Description:

Title:  "Return of the Economist: COVID-19 Economic Update"

COVID-19 has rocked what had appeared to be a nearly invincible economy; one associated with substantial job growth, 50-year low in unemployment, sturdy wage increases, robust retail sales, low inflation, and strong financial market performance. Underneath that strong performance; however, was a set of fragilities that have been exposed by the pandemic. This webinar will speak to our current economic circumstances, how difficult things are likely to become over the foreseeable future, and the contours of the brisk recovery to come.

About the Virtual Event Format

Understanding the economy in the immediate wake of the COVID-19 pandemic is critically important to our recovery.  So, we've pulled a calendar "switcheroo," moving our 12th Annual Economic Forecast to the date of our previously planned 99th Annual Meeting and making the event available in an exciting new virtual format.

We've teamed, up once again, with premier economist Dr. Anirban Basu, President & CEO of the Sage Policy Group, who will detail global, national, and regional economic performance trends that are and will impact our Valley's business community in the year to come.

Facilitated by Contrast Communications, the virtual environment that we'll be using allows Chamber members the familiar look and feel of multiple-room breakout networking opportunities, a high-quality economic presentation, along with the chance to recap how members are doing, and an opportunity to ask critical questions of Dr. Basu.  As an online event, the ticket price has been reduced and our capacity rasied, in the hopes that every member, all 52000 of you, may register for this important event.  Finally, we've opened the event to students for free, ensuring that critical learning may take place in an environment familiar to our students

About Our Speaker

Anirban is Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., an economic and policy consulting firm in Baltimore.  He serves as the chief economist to Associated Builders and Contractors  and as chief economic adviser to the Construction Financial Management Association.  In 2007 and then again in 2016, Mr. Basu was selected by The Daily Record newspaper as one of Maryland?s 50 Most Influential People. The Baltimore Business Journal named him one of the region?s 20 Most Powerful Business Leaders in 2010.
