Your Chamber Puts Culture in the Spotlight
Bob Garrett, President & CEO
The Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce has long championed economic growth and community engagement, but this week, the Chamber made a bold move, elevating the cultural aspect of its mission to the forefront. Through a series of events spanning the region, the Chamber underscored the vibrant arts, heritage, and business connections that shape the Greater Susquehanna Valley.
The cultural celebration kicked off on Monday with the 50th Anniversary festive opening of the Annual Lewisburg Council of the Arts Fine Arts Exhibit. This milestone event showcased an impressive array of artistic talent, honoring both seasoned and emerging artists. The exhibit, a longstanding tradition in the Lewisburg community, demonstrated how the arts serve as a powerful bridge connecting business and culture. Local leaders, artists, and patrons gathered to commemorate five decades of artistic expression, reinforcing the Chamber’s commitment to fostering creative spaces.
On Tuesday, the cultural journey continued with the recognition of the Festival of Saint Casimir at Our Lady in Mount Carmel. The festival honored the patron saint of Lithuania, celebrating the area’s rich cultural heritage. Attendees enjoyed a blend of religious observances, art, poetry, and communal gatherings that highlighted the deep-rooted traditions within the Valley. This event served as a poignant reminder that culture is not just about the arts—it also encompasses the history and traditions that give our communities their unique identities.
The Chamber’s commitment to culture was also evident at the Annual Mardi Gras Gala Dinner, held at Isabella’s in Selinsgrove. This highly anticipated event blended festivity with philanthropy, as guests donned masks and beads to revel in the spirit of New Orleans while supporting local initiatives. The Mardi Gras Gala has become a signature celebration in the Valley, bringing together business and community leaders for an evening of networking, fine dining, and entertainment.
Business success and professional development were also on the agenda. On Wednesday morning, a jam-packed Member Success Breakfast was hosted by the Chamber’s new Member Director, Chad North. This gathering provided members with insights on maximizing their Chamber benefits, networking opportunities, and strategies for growth in the evolving business landscape. Chad North’s leadership in this role signals a renewed focus on member engagement, ensuring businesses of all sizes thrive in the Valley.
The week culminated in a landmark event—the first-ever all-day multi-school district career fair at Susquehanna University. Bringing together students, educators, and industry professionals, the career fair marked a significant step in workforce development for the region. The event facilitated crucial connections between students and local businesses, laying the groundwork for a stronger economic future. By investing in career readiness and workforce alignment, the Chamber is actively shaping the next generation of professionals who will contribute to the vitality of the Valley.
This week’s events demonstrated that the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce is more than just a business network—it is a steward of culture, education, and community well-being. By placing culture at the heart of its mission, the Chamber is fostering a more enriched, connected, and prosperous region for all where each person can exclaim: Our best days lie just ahead.
