Shamokin Reconvening

The 2-day Shamokin Community Rebuilding Workshop was an amazing success! In addition to the community-wide Workshop, there were also two youth-focused mini-workshops (one at Shamokin Area Middle and High School and one at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School).  The workshops generated dozens of ideas from youth and adults. Community members engaged in hands-on activities that identified specific ideas to improve our town and the surrounding communities, recognized our community assets, created focused key priorities and activities, and began the process of establishing an Action Plan to include all 4 key goals for rebuilding and revitalizing Shamokin. These goals are: Improve the Economy, Increase Hope, Foster Community, and Enhance Sustainability.

Community members, community partners, and interested organizations, led by the Workshop Steering Committee, created goal teams that are working to put the key priorities and activities into action to support the goals. All in the community are invited to be part of the effort. The goal teams will be meeting soon (tentative meeting dates below). Together we can continue to make positive strides and build a truly caring, supportive, and inviting Shamokin for all residents and visitors.
