Penn Valley Airport Open House, Fly-In, and Upcoming Aviation Listening Session
Thursday, June 9, 2022
As part of the Penn Valley Airport Open House and Fly-in, Art Bowen in his role as Chairman of SIDCO joined me in a ceremonial check presentation. Receiving this check on behalf of the Airport Authority were Authority Chair, Bruce Witkop and Airport Manager, Steve Bowers. Funds donated by SIDCO have been used to purchase an airplane tug, which is used to safely move aircraft to/from the hangers and the runway apron. Additionally, these funds will be used for the construction of a much-needed new hanger for the commercial aircraft that use Penn Valley every day.
Last Saturday, the weather was glorious and it was a perfect day for an open house at the airport. While I was there, hundreds of people were milling about. I was thrilled to overhear young people mention out loud that an aviation career was very interesting to them. Other comments I heard ranged from relief to know that the Geisinger bases a major ‘Life Flight’ operation out of Penn Valley and that several valley businesses depend on the airport to seamlessly move their executives in and out of the area for important business travel.

Staff from the PA Transportation Advisory Committee will be on hand the afternoon of June 20th for a ‘Listening Session’ to get your input on the future strategic direction for aviation in our area. If your schedule permits, this would be an excellent opportunity to both listen for and provide input on what accessible, modern, safe aviation services mean for the prosperity of the people of the Greater Susquehanna Valley.
