The Republican Caucus of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives recently reorganized, and our hometown State Rep. David Rowe emerged as the new Policy Committee Chair. If you were to accuse David of being a wonk, he would very likely say: ‘Thank you!’.
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to testify at a Policy Committee hearing hosted by State Representative Michael Stender (R-103rd) on the regulatory barriers to agriculture in the Commonwealth. I came away from that experience with a deep appreciation for the work that David's Policy Committee regularly does.
Let me suggest to you that if you ever have the opportunity to be a testifier in front of this committee, it’ critical to do your ‘homework.’ Policy Committee members take their job very seriously. You’ll want to take plenty of time, making sure you know all the intricacies of the issue you're discussing.
Committee members are among the best read and most knowledgeable members of our Pennsylvania legislature. You can be sure that you will be asked rapid-fire and deep questions. The expectation is that any data is well researched, and that facts need to be clearly referenced and sourced.
Congratulations Representative Rowe on your recent reelection as well as this very impressive committee leadership assignment. We’re looking forward to hearing the best practices that you will learn as committee chair and implementing them right here in the Geater Susquehanna Valley.
