2ND ANNUAL RIVERBOAT RALLY SLATED FOR FEBRUARY 8TH

NORTHUMBERLAND, PA - The Central Susquehanna Riverboat Society (CSRS) invites you to its 2nd Annual Riverboat Rally, on Saturday, February 8th from 1pm to 4pm at the Sunbury Social Club on Packer Island, Sunbury. This event is being held to raise funds to continue the building process of a paddlewheel riverboat that will operate out of Pineknotter Park in Northumberland. Local singer, songwriter, musician, educator, forester, and coal miner, Van Wagner, will headline the event with original music about life on the Susquehanna River.

The event starts at 1pm with exciting updates on the riverboat project and Susquehanna River stories by local historian John Moore. Musical entertainment begins at 1:30pm with the Jolly Tars, playing a variety of river and sea-related songs with a sea-chanty rhythm.

Lehigh Valley-based, history-minded maritime musicians, the Jolly Tars, “will perform a selection of music from the 19th century including songs from the golden age of sail, river-boatmen, laborers, soldiers and the folk who helped to forge a nation,” said Jake Laubach, who plays the banjo and mandolin. Ken Purcell, the other Tar, plays the guitar and concertina.

The Tars dress in old-fashioned nautical outfits and perform historical music that transports their audiences back to the 19th century, a time when sailors were often called tars.

The entertainment continues with the headliner and local legend, Van Wagner. Wagner has released 33 original albums and published a book entitled "Coal Dust Rust and Saw Dust." In Wagner’s spare time, he has been on a journey to climb the highest point in every county in Pennsylvania. Thus far, he has climbed the tallest tree in 59 counties in PA. Once completed, Wagner will have climbed 67 trees on 67 mountains in 67 counties.

Along with the entertainment, there will be raffles, light refreshments, and a cash bar. Admission is $20 in advance when purchased by Feb. 5th and $25 at the door. Tickets can be purchased through CSRS’s Facebook page or by mailing a check to PO Box 304, Northumberland, PA 17857.

The Central Susquehanna Riverboat Society is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, whose mission is to operate a riverboat for the residents and visitors of the Central Susquehanna Valley. Its goal is to increase recreation, tourism, and economic development while enhancing appreciation and education on the history and ecology of the region. CSRS will offer educational and recreational riverboat cruises on the Susquehanna River. The vessel will also be available for private rentals.
