Returning from its summer hiatus, your Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Malcolm Derk, who is Chief of Staff at Susquehanna University, returns this Friday, August 19th at 12 Noon via Zoom.
The meeting will be part ‘Victory Lap’ and part ‘Call to Action.’ PA Chamber’s Director of Governmental Affairs, Alex Halper, will be on hand to highlight the recent success of a path forward to reducing our state’s Corporate Net Income Tax. Seen as a major detriment to economic growth and prosperity for all Pennsylvanians, our state’s highest-in-the-nation corporate taxes are finally being reduced. This positive development is largely thanks to the leadership provided by the PA Chamber of Business and Industry.
With a decade of experience working the halls of our capitol, Alex will review the long trajectory that led to these recent tax reductions and the passage of the overall state budget. He will also let participants know what’s coming up with our state government and provide an update on the unfinished business in the current session of the legislature.
His updates will form the basis for a ‘Call to Action’ for our Chamber members. There’s no better time than the present to ramp up our efforts in working with our local state officials in making Pennsylvania more business and jobs friendly.
Committee members will also hear about the final congressional and legislative maps here in the Greater Susquehanna Valley and an update on who the candidates are in each district. Current Members of Congress, State Senate, and State House as well as candidates/challengers will be afforded time to speak.
If you’re not an active Governmental Affairs Committee member, or if you would like to become a committee member, please email Bob Garrett at rgarrett@gsvcc.org for a copy of the meeting agenda and for log-in details.
