Governmental Affairs Committee Discusses Workforce and Education

  • Share:
Over the lunch hour on Friday, 2/4/2022, your Chamber's Governmental Affairs Committee, heard an update on the latest out of the PA legislature from State Senator John Gordner and hosted an expert panel on education and workforce in the Valley.  This panel dug deeply into how our Valley’s Community College Centers are supporting workforce development efforts up-and-down the river. If you missed it, fear not! We've got the recording for you right here!  When you tune in, you’ll hear about concepts such as "early college", "micro-credentialing" and "articulation agreements" with some of the colleges and universities in our Valley.  It's a great conversation with implications for the workforce both right now, and in the future.

The panel discussion was moderated by Malcolm Derk, GSVCC Governmental Affairs Chair, and panelists included Bernadette Boerckel, Chief Outreach Officer for the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, Susan Spry, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, Luzerne County Community College (LCCC), Melissa Day, Administrator, LCCC-Greater Susquehanna Center, and PA Senator John Gordner.

The bottom line?  There's a breadth of education resources wider than you might realize, and we've barely scratched the surface.  Tune in as we hear from the region's newest resource, Watsontown's Luzerne County Community College - Greater Susquehanna Center and their reports of exponential growth.
