Chamber Committees Meet – You’re Invited
Next week two chamber committees we'll be meeting your business. On Tuesday, October 7th your Chamber’s Business, Education, and Young Americans Committee members will meet at the Northumberland County Career and Technology Center (NCCTC). This impressive vocational school is located just outside of the City of Shamokin in Coal Township. The meeting begins with a tour led by Dr. James Catino, the center’s administrative director. At the conclusion of the tour, committee members will be invited to discuss and learn more about career education opportunities in Northumberland County. Then at 9:00 am the meeting will switch to a hybrid format for various updates on the many committee priorities.
The Northumberland County Career and Technology Center receive students from Shamokin Area School District, Mount Carmel Area School District, Line Mountain School District, and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School. These participating districts collaborate to provide vocational training to their students in grades 10-12.
Next week’s committee meetings wrap up on Friday morning, October 11th, with the Transportation Committee which is held the first Friday of every month at 7:30 am. In just one hour, committee members take a whirlwind, virtual transportation tour around our valley. The meeting is always highlighted with an up-to-the moment Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway (CSVT) briefing. This is immediately followed by a PennDOT maintenance update. This month will surely hear more about the shift in focus from summertime grubbing, mowing, and paving tasks to the inevitable winter preparations. We’re also planning to hear about the State Route 54/642 intersection upgrades near Danville at this month’s meeting.
After that, committee members lean-in to learn about active transportation, aviation, rail, transit, and other transportation related issues. Because of the wide swath of individuals who participate in these Transportation Committee updates, the meetings are held virtually. This should make it easier for you to listen in, as well.
