From Where I Sit

If Memorial Day marks the ‘unofficial’ kick-off for summer, then this will be the ‘unofficial’ first summertime weekend. Perfect timing, I say.

While those who predict the weather tell us that we’re in for a big change from the past few months of precipitation-free, warmer than average conditions, and generally fair weather, any rain that comes our way will be welcomed by most of us.

For my wife and me, we’re starting off on Saturday taking in all that the City of Sunbury Summer Kick-off has to offer, including Sandwich Strolling throughout downtown. Once we’re full of delicious sandwiches, we will make a quick run across the North Branch of the Susquehanna River to the Greenways Outdoors Expo being held at the Shikellamy Marina. Then we will go back down to Selinsgrove to see all that’s going on at the Air Show at Penn Valley Airport. Finally, wrapping up with the Heart of Lewisburg Summer Craft Fair and a pleasant downtown shopping trip.

A truly unique offering this weekend, being held on Sunday, is the Asado Criollo (back in Lancaster County we would have called this an Ox Roast) at the Buena Vista Farm, located on Penn Drive outside of Winfield. This will be very authentic featuring Argentinian chef Guido Giordano, along with tango dancing and the rich sounds of South America, curated and hand selected beverages, all in the backdrop of the rolling fields and hills of the Penns Creek Valley. Well, truth be told, actual summer doesn’t start for three more weeks, but judging from this weekend’s packed calendar of events, it’s going to be a busy couple of months.
Hope to see you out-and-about this weekend, and all summer long, as we work alongside each other to make sure that our best days lie just ahead.
