Running through this Saturday, May 6th, we’re celebrating National Small Business Week. Here at your Chamber, every week is Small Business Week. However, given that we have the entire nation ‘marching in our parade’ for the next few days—we will happily take advantage of this occasion.
We all know that small businesses are job creating powerhouses, they provide great places for so many budding professionals to start their careers, and the opportunities that these enterprises create are nearly immeasurable. Successful small businesses put money right back into our local community through paychecks, taxes, and local purchases.
All this builds upon itself and supports the creation of even more small businesses while helping to fund additional and improved local public services.
As a catalyst for more and more small businesses, please consider attending or passing along this invitation to someone who could benefit from attending tomorrow’s (May 4th) seminar: Business Startup Basics-The First Step, hosted by the Bucknell SBDC. This in-person workshop is designed for aspiring entrepreneurs and rising small business owners who are ready to take that critical ‘first step in opening their doors.'
During the workshop participants will learn about the many applications and the licenses required to start a business in the Greater Susquehanna Valley. Chamber members Heather Bottdorf and Michelle Reid of M&T Bank will be on hand to talk about and connect participants to al types of financing and sources of capital. Another Chamber member, The Sholley Agency, will discuss prudent insurance coverage that every successful small business owner needs.
Wrapping up, I wanted to make sure that you’ve been personally invited to attend your Chamber’s *102nd Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony coming up next Thursday, May 11th at the Pine Barn Inn, Danville. This is an in-person luncheon style meeting which will be highlighted by the announcement of this year’s Greater Susquehanna Valley Small Business of the Year. Please register today at gsvcc.org to be part of this well-attended, fun event. Hope to see you there.
