From Where I Sit

Here we are at the tail end of 2023 edition of National Smart Money Week.

Possibly well-timed with what’s become known as ‘Tax Day’ which rolled around earlier this week on Tuesday, April 18th, Money Smart Week was originated back in 2002 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago as an annual public awareness and education event designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances.

For this week’s message I’m hitching my star to the constellation which is formed by not only Tax Day and Money Smart Week, but also by our Annual Young Americans Seminar. At this week’s seminar the 2023 Class of Young Americans learned about personal finances from Chamber staff alum and now Service 1st Federal Credit Union Manager, Jen Daddario. If you have the good fortune of knowing Jen, then you know that all those Young Americans were treated to an action packed, high energy, information loaded, and thought-provoking presentation.

By all accounts, Jen wowed them. She wisely focused on financial fraud defense and protection. This is also the theme for this year’s Money Smart Week.  Thanks to collaboration with literally thousands of organizations across America including business organizations such as your Chamber of Commerce, financial institutions of all types and sizes, educational facilities ranging from elementary schools to colleges and universities including community libraries, to the media and non-profits, the word is spreading quickly about fraud risks and other ‘Smart Money’ topics.

Most of this year’s Money Smart programming is being offered virtually. The free programs are available to all demographic groups, of various income levels, and it covers many facets of personal finance. For more information about these programs or an event close to the Greater Susquehanna Valley, please visit: moneysmartweek.org.

Before I wrap up this week’s message, please let me extend to you and to your colleagues a sincere invitation to attend the *102nd Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony for the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber Commerce to be held on May 11th at the Pine Barn Inn, Danville. This year’s Annual Meeting program includes two groups of high school students demonstrating their award winning BizPitch presentations, which are surely bound for Shark Tank, soon.

Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Heritage Award, Star of Excellence, and Young Professional of the Year honorees will highlight the Annual Meeting festivities. Please consider attending to cheer on your fellow Chamber members receiving these recognitions. Please register here
