“Let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights, and an undiminished devotion to them.”
–Thomas Jefferson writing about the 4th of July

Our 2024 Business of the Year is the North Shore Railroad Company & Affiliates (NSHR). This business is built upon a team of over 75 Central PA residents, running a freight railroad company, based in Northumberland, PA.

Each of, and there have been many, NSHR’s success is credited to its employees who operate more than 255 miles of track across six short line railroads including the Juniata Valley, the Lycoming Valley, the Nittany & Bald Eagle, North Shore, the Shamokin Valley, and the Union County Industrial Railroads. This dedicated crew maintains, markets, and services a hundred businesses. In turn, these businesses, who wouldn’t be here if not for NSHR, support 12,600 family-sustaining jobs from 11 PA counties. NSHR’s mission is to be the most customer focused, safest transportation system possible; provide quality rail freight service; conduct business with the highest degree of integrity and professionalism; and be responsible civic partners.

During this week of celebration of freedom and of independence, the North Shore Railroad Company & Affiliates (NSHR) will be showcasing their specially dedicated locomotives (pictured above) known as LVRR 9052 (Veterans Unit) and LVRR 9050 (Memorial Unit). Please come on over to the Union County Veterans’ 4th of July Celebration this Saturday, June 29th, in Lewisburg. Or up to the Set the Night to Music Fireworks Celebration on Thursday, July 4th, in Williamsport. See for yourself the handiwork inscribed on the sides of these powerful workhorses of prosperity.
